What kind of results can I expect?
Together we agree up front what the deliverables will be, and also consider what the measures are for success. This can be easy for a simple direct mail piece or a social media profile and much more complex for a strategic communications plan. I never promise specific results, but I think you’ll be pleased to see how I maximize your efforts to accomplish more than you might have expected.
Do you do the work or outsource?
This depends on the project scope. I am an experienced copywriter, marketing consultant and project manager. There is a lot that I can do, but I also have a deep network of complimentary colleagues whom I subcontract to or connect clients to for specific specialties. I am happy to recommend graphic designers, photographers, printers and even other writers who are best equipped to meet your needs. I can provide contact information, or, if you prefer, serve as project manager when several professionals and vendors are involved.
What kind of turn around can you promise?
For case studies, white papers and special reports, plan on two weeks. I’ll need to research, interview key contacts and write and polish copy. Annual reports and compete websites are likely to take a month or longer depending on how much pre-planning has been done. For a complete integrated communications plan, we will map out a schedule and deliverables to meet your organizational or business needs. The bottom line is that every project is unique and I will not promise a deadline until I understand everything that is required. I can occasionally take on a “Rush” job, but my ability to do this is subject to my current roster of projects.
What if I need revisions?
I expect that there will be edits and suggested modifications to any first draft provided to a client. One complete rewrite is included in the process. All requested changes must be made in writing and submitted within 30 days of receipt of copy or other agreed upon deliverables. My goal is to get it right. If additional work is needed or circumstances arise that require a new direction, we’ll work together to revise our plan and contract.
If I’m in New York or Toronto or Seattle and you are in New Hampshire, how do we make this work?
I work with clients all over the country and in Canada. Since a lot of my work is about writing copy for websites, it only makes sense that we use the computer to share and review drafts and project updates. We can also arrange video conferences using Skype. If we are working on complex projects with inter-related deliverables, or a variety of tasks that require staff input, you may choose to bring me on site to meet with your staff or colleagues impacted by our work together.
What do your fees include?
My fees include required research, including review of current marketing collateral and often interviews with key staff and clients/customers. Depending on the scope of work, there may also be a need for in person meetings or other activities. All will be specifically noted in our contract and schedule of deliverables.
Do you ask for payment up front?
Typically, I require 30% upon contract agreement, 40% when the first draft is submitted and the final 30% at project completion. Scope of work and specific assignments may dictate other terms, but all will be clearly documented for your review before we begin our work together.
Can you design my website/collateral/direct mail, too?
I have a strong aesthetic sense and can work with you to develop a concept to support anything we might work on together. I frequently tap talented colleagues for graphic design and web development. I can work with vendors of your choosing as well. Often clients ask me to manage a website or print project from start to finish, including vendor selection and oversight.
Will you coordinate with my other suppliers?
Absolutely. I have my own Rolodex of reliable professionals: other copywriters, graphic designers, and printers. As noted above, I can coordinate with people you already have in place or bring together the right team to complete your project.
